After a year off the air, the Golden Globe Awards returned to NBC on Tuesday for the 80th edition of the awards ceremony, and Hollywood’s elites flocked back to the red carpet at The Beverly Hilton hotel to mark the occasion.
Last year’s televised ceremony was canceled due to a boycott by various media companies and celebrities over the lack of diversity in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This organization selects Golden Globe nominees and winners.
Following the boycott, the HFPA made efforts to increase the membership diversity of the organization. They’ve added 103 new voters, which were “recruited from international industry organizations, as well as from active outreach to esteemed foreign film festivals and journalist professionals,” the HFPA said in a statement.

“Combined with the current HFPA membership, the total Golden Globe Awards voting body is 52% female, 51.5% racially and ethnically diverse with 19.5% Latinx, 12% Asian, 10% Black and 10% Middle Eastern. The voting body also includes individuals who self-identify as LGBTQIA+. The total number of voters is now 200.”
With the Golden Globes return to television this year, high-profile stars from both TV and film, including Jennifer Coolidge, Selena Gomez, Michelle Yeoh, and Jenna Ortega, took the opportunity to dress up and display their style senses.
