One specific Hogwarts Legacy puxxle that might cause your trouble, and one that certainly raised the eyebrow of many of the first players, is working out how to open Slytherin’s door. What’s the big deal though? Well, while most players might just let one closed door or small side quest go, there’s just one tiny problem: completing the door puzzle unlocks an unforgivable curse, and if there’s one thing about us Harry Potter fans, we can’t possibly pass up the chance to unlock one of those.
To help you out with this puzzle, we’ll be going through everything related to Slytherin’s Door, including when you’ll come across it, how to open it, and what you’ll get as a reward for doing so.
When do you have to open Slytherin’s Door?
If you’ve been going through the questline of Sebastian, the Slytherin student who your character gradually grows closer to, then you’ll eventually come across a quest named “In the Shadow of the Study”.
Over the course of this questline, you’ll be able to acquire and learn three different unforgivable curses, and the quest “In the Shadow of the Study” gives players the choice to learn Crucio – but before that, they have to solve a puzzle in order to open Slytherin’s Door.

How to open Slytherin’s Door
After starting the quest, simply follow Sebastian until he leads you to Ominis, another NPC. Ominis will then tell you to light three braziers to open Slytherin’s Door.
Well, you have to do just as he tells you. If you stand with Slytherin’s Door right in front of you, looking right will show you two braziers, one at the right and one at the left. The third brazier, meanwhile, will be in the corridor right in front of Slytherin’s Door toward the left wall.
- To open the door, you have to light all three braziers in quick succession. The best way to do this is by standing right in front of Slytherin’s Door so you’re able to see and target all the braziers.
- Then, use either the Incendio or Confringo spell quickly to light all three of them quickly, making the door open.
What’s inside Slytherin’s Door?
As soon as Slytherin’s Door opens, head inside and down the stairs after which you’ll have to solve some more puzzles that were also made by Salazar Slytherin, although these are called Serpent Doors.
When you get to the very end of the quest, you’ll get the option to learn and unlock the Cruciatus curse that makes enemies writhe in pain as they take damage over time. It also curses the user, and cursed enemies take extra damage. We don’t know about you, but it sounds pretty appealing to us.
How do you open the other doors in the quest?
Other doors appear throughout this questline and you’ll need to make sure you know how to open these Slytherin doors (or Serpent Doors) too to progress the questline. Thankfully, these are much easier and much more straightforward. They all have a similar snake-symbol themed mechanism; so just look out for those signs on the doors and match the mechanism to the door – get it right, and you’re through.
How to open Slytherin’s Door in Hogwarts Legacy: Final word
That was how to open Slytherin’s Door in Hogwarts Legacy. As you might have guessed, the door isn’t called Slytherin’s Door because of the house, but because the door (and the puzzles inside) were all designed by Salazar Slytherin.
