How can India qualify for semifinals?
Scenario 1: If WestIndies beat Pakistan
- If WestIndies beat Pakistan today in their last game, it will give India a massive boost. But it won’t secure them any spots.
- Windies will tie India on 4 points but Pakistan will still have an advantage as they will have a game in hand.
- WI will still bow out as they are on a -0.913 NRR.
- Windies can qualify with 4 points if Pakistan lose to England and India lose to Ireland by big margins.
Scenario 2: If Pakistan beat WestIndies –
- A Pakistan win against WestIndies will complicate things for India.
- Pakistan will go par on 4 points with India and will take the 2nd spot in Group 2 on the basis of better NRR.

- The final group game on Tuesday will decide who goes through.

Scenario 3: If India beat Ireland –
- India will be in good position to qualify for semifinals if they beat Ireland on Monday.
- It will take India to 6 points from 4 games, on par with England.
- But it won’t guarantee them a spot in the semis.
- India will have to rely on results from England vs Pakistan match.
Scenario 3: If Ireland beat India
- India can still qualify with a loss to Ireland.
- But India will have to rely on England hammering Pakistan by a huge margin to even have a shot at semifinal spot.
- Pakistan have an NRR of +1.542 while India are on +0.205.
- Hence, it will be almost impossible for India to leapfrog Pakistan.
However, even if India qualify for the semifinals as a second team from Group 2, their final hopes will be in jeopardy. The second-placed team from Group 2 will face mighty Australia in the semifinals. Australia are guaranteed the top spot in Group 1 having won all four of their matches.
Considering India’s recent record against Australia, they will want to avoid the World No 1 T20 team. Australia have only lost two matches since 2020 in regulation time. India suffered a humiliating defeat in the Commonwealth Games final. Australia also handed India a comprehensive 4-1 series defeat at India’s home. India could only win one game in Super Over.
