Metro Manila positivity rate could have already exceed 50% – OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila could now have a positivity rate of more than 50 percent as its COVID-19 cases continued their uptick, Dr. Guido David, a fellow of independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research tweeted on Saturday.

“The growth in positivity rate has not slowed down yet, and looks like to increase to over 50 percent by January 7,” David said in his Tweet.

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who would test positive among the total number of individuals tested for SARS-CoV 2, the virus which causes COVID-19.

Citing data from the Department of Health (DOH), David also shared the cities and towns with the most number of COVID-19 cases as of Jan. 7.

The top 10 cities on the list are all in Metro Manila, with Quezon City at the top with 3,108 cases.

Metro Manila is under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 3 to 15.

On Saturday, the Philippines just recorded its all-time high COVID-19 cases with 26,458, according to the DOH.

In total, the country reported 2,936,875 cases including 102,017 active cases, 2,782,723 recoveries, and 52,135 deaths, the DOH added.
