Ranji Trophy Highlights, Day 3: Ravindra Jadeja topples Tamil Nadu with 7-fer, Baroda & Karnataka register easy wins, Maharashtra take lead against Mumbai: Watch Ranji Trophy 2023 Round 7 highlights

Day 1 of the final round is underway. Assam are all out on 113 on the opening day while Jharkhand ended their 1st innings on 164. Saurashtra and Mumbai are fielding vs Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra respectively. Ravindra Jadeja is the main attraction in Round 7. India’s star all-rounder is leading Saurashtra vs Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra vs Mumbai is the other blockbuster match in this round. The race for spots in the Elite groups’ quarterfinals has been fierce as the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season enters the final round of the group stage. Each group’s top two teams will advance to the knockout rounds.

Bengal, Saurashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh have already clinched their positions in QFs. 11 teams are in the fray for the remaining 4 spots in the last 8.

Group A

  • Bengal of Group A have 32 points and are already in the quarterfinals.
  • Himachal Pradesh (20) and Uttarakhand (26) are vying for the remaining position.
  • Uttarakhand will qualify if they defeat Haryana or establish a lead in the first innings in the event of a draw.
  • Himachal needs a victory by a minimum of two points. However, even then, they still need Uttarakhand to lose or draw their game by just one point.
  • If Uttarakhand loses, it would remain at 26 points while Himachal will advance with 27 points.
  • Himachal will be placed higher since it will receive two additional points compared to Uttarakhand’s one.
  • Uttarakhand will be eligible based on their head-to-head record after defeating Himachal in late December by a margin of five wickets.

Group B

  • Saurashtra will advance to the next round thanks to their 26 points.
  • In terms of overall points, Andhra can at most tie with them, but Saurashtra will beat them on bonus points.
  • Only one of Mumbai or Maharashtra can surpass Saurashtra’s point total because they are playing each other.
  • There is a chance Mumbai and Maharashtra might both finish with 26 points. If their match is a draw and Mumbai wins the first inning, that will take place.
  • Maharashtra will then be eliminated because they have no bonus points, compared to Saurashtra’s zero and Mumbai’s two.
  • If Saurashtra lose their final match and Mumbai and Maharashtra tie it, Maharashtra would lead the group with 28 points while Saurashtra and Mumbai will be tied on 26 points each.
  • Whoever wins between Mumbai and Maharashtra—or, in the event of a tie, who takes the first-innings lead—will advance.
  • Andhra, meantime, is strung together by the most tenuous of strands. They must defeat Assam with a bonus point in order to advance.
  • They must then hope that Mumbai and Maharashtra’s match ends in a draw with no team gaining an early lead.

Group C

  • Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Goa are vying for the second Group C quarterfinal spot.
  • Karnataka has already advanced. Jharkhand will advance if they defeat Karnataka in their last group-stage encounter.
  • They will, however, be hoping neither Rajasthan nor Kerala win their respective games if they lose or only receive one point.
  • Rajasthan and Kerala can still pass Jharkhand with bonus-point victories if they draw with a first-innings lead.
  • Rajasthan can still finish ahead of Jharkhand because run quotient will determine who will place where.
  • Kerala and Rajasthan need to win their respective games in order to have a chance. A tie will not benefit either party’s cause.
  • Rajasthan will be placed higher based on bonus points if both teams finish with an equal number of points.
  • Goa must defeat Chhattisgarh and then hope that Jharkhand loses, Rajasthan doesn’t win, and neither do Kerala.
  • If Jharkhand gains one point, either Goa wants to win with a bonus point or the run quotient will decide the outcome.

Group D

  • Madhya Pradesh had already earned a spot.
  • The only teams still in the running for the last berth are Punjab and Vidarbha.
  • Punjab only needs to avoid losing by an innings or ten wickets when playing at home.
  • Vidarbha must triumph and receive a bonus point in order to qualify.
  • Punjab and Vidarbha will thereafter be deadlocked on 26 points, plus one bonus point each.
  • With four victories to Punjab’s three, Vidarbha will go to the quarterfinals.
